Tue at 4: 15 my water broke, something I was not expecting as I was only 36 wks and 4 days along.  Once checked at the hospital I was not dilated or effaced at all.  With Tyler I was put on Servidil (softens cervix) twice and put on Pitocin full dosage for two full straight days.  I only effaced 80% without any dilation.  My water broke with Tyler as well, but I ended up in a c-section due to failure to progress with my bag of water already broken.  With Riley I had the option to be augmented (induced once labor (water broke) had already started), but they said it would take days to start, if it would at all.  I wanted to attempt a VBAC (Vaginal Birth After Cesarean) up until a week before I went into labor.  With serious prayer and contemplation I felt sick about the thought of a VBAC.  Once in the hospital it was obvious why a C-section was needed.  At around 8:30PM I was brought into the OR.

The surgery went well and I have recovered so much faster and much more comfortably than I did with Tyler.

The baby came and at first all seemed well until in the nursery where he began loosing oxygen.  Shortly after he was brought to the NICU.  The next 9 days he spent there being closely monitored.  There were three things wrong:
1. Hole in his lung (pneumothorax)
2. Pneumonia
3. Immature Lung Disease or Respirtory Distress Syndrome (RDS)

He underwent lots of tests, IV's, Arterial line (Line in this umbilical), ventilated, received surfactant when ventilated (this really helped the RDS and mature his lungs), nasal cannula, O2 helmet.

I was discharged on Saturday and the following Thur Riley got to come home.  In between that time we would spend most of our waking hours between our house taking care of Tyler and the hospital to feed and be with Riley.

We are so grateful for medical technology and that our little guy survived his premature entry into this world.

We have learned many things from this situation.  Mostly, I am grateful for my family of 4 and that we are now together.
